About Bruce

Born in Toronto, I attended the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario and graduated with an Honours B.A. in 1981. My career began as a wilderness instructor for youth at risk, initially in Ontario and then in Alberta. My experience dealing with youth and their families in conflict was the catalyst for attending Law School which I completed at the University of Ottawa in 1990.

After my call to the Bar in 1992 I immediately joined a Family Law Boutique with five other lawyers working exclusively in the area of Family Law. For the past 20 years I have continued to provide Family Law services as a sole practitioner for the Ottawa area.

With over 30 years of experience as a family lawyer, inside and outside of the court, combined with my extensive training and practice as a family mediator, it is my view that going to court should be a last resort.  It is expensive and no one is completely satisfied with the result. To use a borrowed phrase, “Going to court provides a decision, not a solution”.

I believe it is vital that clients trust and respect their legal counsel.   The approach I bring to my client’s dispute is practical, timely and solution focused. I work together with my clients to understand their particular and unique family situation and help frame and define objectives, highlight areas of potential controversy with their separating spouse, review and analyze risk and then prepare a realistic assessment of their position to develop appropriate strategies.   I am committed to being accessible at all times for my clients, responding to any inquiry within 24 hours, supporting and keeping them informed through their difficult time of relationship and family breakdown.
